bound

moonlight

on her tiptoes
she s  t  r  e  t  c  h  e  s
to touch what was lost

a now-dusty remnant of a time
before the burdens of life had weighed her

she sees her silhouette against the wall
an indeterminate shadow
surrounded by golden-red
sunsets
fading as the evening sky’s purple fingers
draw night’s jewel-strewn curtain

she wonders

(not for the first time)
(not for the last time)

if her life was simply
a collection of moments
longing for yesterdays
